Born and raised in western Canada I now call the Lake Constance area of Germany my home. I am a self-taught artist and began painting botanical watercolours in 2004.
Since discovering my love for botanical art I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to live and work in one of the richest floral areas in the world - the Cape Floral Region of South Africa. The natural history of southern Africa captivates me (as you might glean from the number of my paintings depicting South African flora and fauna!). Much of my time there was spent outdoors in the botanical paradises of the Western and Northern Cape provinces, as well as in the province of KwaZulu Natal. And arising from these explorations comes my inspiration to paint South African flora, and to capture the essence of this land's botanical marvels on paper.
My main interest is watercolour but I also work in graphite, charcoal and coloured pencil. The images on this site are all watercolours, some with a touch of gouache, others with illustrative graphite drawings but the majority are pure watercolour creations.
You can also find me on RedBubble (a print-on-demand, on-line art shop and community of international artists).
I am a member of BotanicalArtists.com, Botanical Artistry, the American Society of Botanical Artists and a supporter of E-Flora BC (an electronic atlas of the plants of British Columbia, Canada).
I am represented by Xanadu Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. Vanessa Pasqualetto / Xanadu
